iPads 2020 buying guide: choose the best iPad for you

Since Apple’s restructuring, which began back in 1997, the company’s product philosophy has been this — make only one product per category, but do it right. Since then, however, Apple’s portfolio has been growing. Slowly, sure, but steadily. So, while back in iPhone 4s days, we only had the choice between a white iPhone and a black iPhone, nowadays, we have plenty of phones, tablets, and computers to pick from. From super-compact, to gargantuan sizes, from less-powerful to bleeding-edge-of-hardware levels.

So, while back in the day we had a choice between “that new iPad or the one that came out last year”, now we have quite the choice...

Google adds a COVID-19 layer to Google Maps

Google continues to work on improving Google Maps and on Wednesday a “COVID-19 layer” started rolling out. With this layer, users can see areas where the virus is spreading and it is coded by color based on the number of people with the coronavirus in each region. The layer produces these color codes based on the seven-day average for the number of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people and even reveals whether the number of cases is trending higher or lower.

In a blog post published yesterday, Google said that over a billion people rely on Google Maps to help them safely get from point “A” to point “B.” And that includes safely navigating around the virus by using the COVID-19 layer...

The Pixel 5 leaks in green, along with the new Google TV Chromecast dongle

Google is preparing to release the Pixel 5 on our unsuspecting heads, and Roland Quandt already leaked everything there is to know about it, including the sweet midrange Pixel 5 price.

The same Roland, however, now has something equally juicy to show us – the Pixel 5 in green, chillaxing next to the new Google TV dongle that is supposed to replace Chromecast and comes with its own remote.

There is also the upcoming Nest Audio smart speaker present in the picture, indicating that an announcement of a whole new ecosystem is near.

Likely to fit as part of Google’s Nest home automation brand now, the new Google TV/Chromecast dongle will include Netflix and Disney+ apps, Google’s Stadia gaming, and come with its own remote that you see...

The US 5G war of words heats up as T-Mobile fires back at Verizon and AT&T

The war for 5G supremacy in the US wireless industry has been pretty ugly and confusing right from the start, but even though John Legere no longer has any interest in constantly teasing and deriding T-Mobile’s competition and AT&T has had to drop its advertising shenanigans, the fight for first place recently took a surprising turn.

Acknowledging the “Un-carrier’s” ideal position for incredible customer growth after Sprint’s disappearance, Verizon and AT&T formed an unlikely alliance against the nation’s second-largest mobile network operator, arguing that T-Mobile has been allowed to amass an excessive and unfair amount of low and mid-band 5G spectrum of late.
While the two cellular giants merely asked the FCC to block a fairly routine lease transaction, many pundits and analysts expect...

Google Pixel 5 price ‘confirmed’

The phones will reportedly be powered by the Snapdragon 765G and 128GB of storage, and they will have an identical dual camera array with a 12.2MP main sensor and a 16MP ultra wide-angle unit, and the same 8MP front camera.
Leaker Jon Prosser, who doesn’t exactly have a pristine track record, now claims that the phone will retail for $699. He is pretty confident about the scoop, and it is line with an alleged Google survey.

This price tag could be a downer for several reasons.

First off, the Pixel 5 will not be a lot different than the Pixel 4a (5G), if you count out dissimilarities such as the former’s rumored 90Hz screen, 8GB of RAM as opposed to 6GB on the later, a slightly larger battery with support for wireless charging, Gorilla Glass 6, and IP68 certification.
Will consumers be wi...

Apple releases final versions of latest iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch updates

Apple today released an update to iOS 14.0.1 that exterminates some bugs and more. This isn’t the first public update released by Apple over the last week. On September 16th, the final public build of iOS 14 was introduced bringing changes to the home screen, Android-style widgets, picture-in-picture capabilities, App Clips, and more. The latter allows a user to take advantage of an app’s feature set to take care of tasks without having to completely install the app.
So what are the issues that iOS 14.0.1 fixes? One causes the default browser or Mail app you’ve selected to reset to Safari or Mail when your iPhone or iPad is rebooted. With today’s update, this problem is erased which means that once you’ve selected your default browser or mail app, you won’t have to select it again...

Snapdragon 875 will likely be followed by Snapdragon 775G, a 6nm flagship-rivaling chip

The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 875G will also be available in a Plus variant, claims tipster Roland Quandt.

The Snapdragon 875G is apparently codenamed SM8350 and it is internally known as Lahaina.

Based on what we know so far, it will be made using Samsung’s 5nm EUV process as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)’s entire 5nm capacity has been reserved by Apple for the A14 Bionic and other proprietary chips.
5nm chips are expected to be around 25 percent smaller and 20 percent more power-efficient than 7nm SoCs. And, of course, we can also look forward to performance gains.

If history is any indication, Qualcomm’s upcom...

Photos claim to show high-end battery accessory for the 5G Apple iPhone 12 series

Back during the summer, we told you that Twitter tipster @L0vetodream disseminated a tweet to get the word out about the USB-C to Lightning cable that will come in the box with the 2020 iPhone 12 family. The tipster said that the new cable will be braided allowing it to be more durable than the previous iteration of the cord which was made without using fabric for durability. Considering that Apple is reportedly not including a charging brick with the purchase of its 2020 phones, upgrading the cable is probably the least that it can do.

Today, a tweet from another tipster who calls Twitter his home, Mr.white (@laobaiTD), contains photos that allegedly show the new braided cable from different angles...
